Derby's double-edge razor copies the classic Gillettes and is lighter in the butt than nearly any Merkur razor.  It comes in a little case with a peephole window, so you know there's a razor in there.  It is one of only 2 items on our site made in China.

The Derby Double-Edge Safety Razor is very likely available from many different brand names all coming from the same factory.

However, as is often the case with things from crafty China, the same factory will make the 'same' item to varying degrees of reliability for different distributors.

The Derby-branded ones have proven themselves consistent enough for us to carry them as our only cut-rate safety razor.

This is a lighter (50g), somewhat loving copy of the classic Gillette 1940s and later twist-to-open safeties.  Though the pic would make it appear otherwise, the top of the head is slightly curved.  The classic Gillettes are certainly better, just hard to find in great shape for <$15 and usually involving a nasty cleaning.

This thing's not bad.

Derby:  An excellent blade from Turkey that's highly regarded by nearly anyone you'd ask, the "chromium-ceramic-platinum-tungsten and polymer coated edges" Derbys are like the Walter Payton of the double edge blade universe; not superlative in any one element, just damn good at all of 'em.  Plenty sharp, smooth, consistent, durable, and sensibly packaged...the Derby does it all, for not too much dough.  Numbered on the edges; you can face a different # through 4 shaves.

The Derby 'Barber Razor' is a way for you to try the feel of straight razor shaving on the cheap, with all its glorious control over the blade angle and pressure and skin stretching.

It accepts any single edge blades designed such as Derby's own listed here, or 1/2 of any double-edge blade.  It doesn't accept the thicker single-edge blades such as for the Gem razors.  It is easy to exchange the blade, and you'll quickly learn the straight.  You could use new blades daily with this thing and still shave for about $30 a year, an incredibly cheap way to take hair off of your face comfortably.  We sell it alone or in a kit with 100 of their single blades.
