Mühle's R41's been updated in 2011, and now combines some of the capacity of an open comb and a conventional straight cut guard; they're calling it a "tooth comb" razor. Straight out of the box with one shave under my belt, I can certainly declare that this is right at the top of the list of most aggressive razors anyone will ever use. Get a good look at that comb design as we show it from underneath; note how just those thin teeth will push down on your skin, and they'll do so well away from the blade, too. Furthermore, the blade's natural angle of incidence once installed is far closer to 90° from the handle than any other 3-piece safety I've ever seen. This thing cuts steep, with high pressure variance below the blade, and plenty of gap between blade and teeth. Be warned! However, given all that, I can also say that even with one shave it is apparent that this thing can give ultimate closeness with fewer passes to those whom can tame it. Taming it will not be easy, even for an experienced safety razor user. But if you've got barbed wire coming out of your face, you should definitely try this razor(as well as a Merkur #37 or #39). No lay-down neck hair could challenge it. Try with a Feather, and try with a Derby...those are the extremes of sharpness and smoothness and what'll be best with this special model and you is likely to fall to one extreme or the other. The Mühle R41 costs much more than its near Merkur ~equivalents (11C's the closest), but has superior workmanship and incredible quality upon its chrome plating. The lovely knurled chrome handle is ~1/2" (12mm) thick, with a 3.7" (94mm) overall length and a weight of 2.1 oz (60 grams). This is a 3-piece razor, instead of a 2-piece like the Merkur 11C, so changing the blade's marginally more involved but still quite easy. It comes in a paper box and delivered with a Derby blade.
