Part of their more elite collection in the expense of the materials used, the Mühle R42SR Sophist is a classic 3-piece safety with a handle made of real buffalo horn. Buffalo horn's a complex thing to capture photographically; its subtle variances just can't be photographed very well. But when they have the "R42SR" designation, it favors a lighter-colored piece of horn, with actual samples of stock shown below. Mühle razors as a family have the very finest chrome plating on the market, and the R42SR's certainly no exception. All of the Mühle 3-piece straight cut razors we sell share the same wonderful head. In particular, the level of smoothness upon the comb guard and the top of the head are beyond reproach, and many, many users literally claim they can feel this difference upon their face during the shave. The Sophist's tapered conical handle's ~0.7" (17mm) at its thickest, with a 4.75" (121mm) overall length and in this case a weight of 2.6 oz (75 g). It fits well in stands grabbing the neck of a razor, such as Mühle's RHM8, but also works well in the Mühle RHM3. This is a 3-piece razor, so changing the blade's marginally more involved but still quite easy. Comes in a gift box and is delivered with a Derby blade. $200; Samples of Stock Shown Below |
