Who knew these ole' scales would prove so popular? Not me, that's for sure. It would seem many are restoring old blades for use.
I don't like having to buy stuff from you-know-where (the place that makes EVERYTHING),...problem is, though we can all smile that straight razors are a growing practice, it is still a miniscule minority of people on earth.
These quality plastic or wood scales are made (long, long ago, I presume) in Germany. Supply's a problem, so we remove them from this page as they expire from stock, and we've no meaningful answer beyond "no time soon" as to when variants are replenished, so there's not much point asking.
These scales are old stock-likely multiple decades old in most cases. They're not used, but expect 'shop wear' on all acrylics, especially red. Conservation wax fills the eccentricities well.
We supply a matched pin/washer for each scale, as shown below; it is either a ~15mm or ~19mm long little pin (based on scale size) and comes with a crimping washer thing. You can also use nickel, brass, or stainless steel 1/16" rods/washers (a near-lifetime supply's available at any competent hardware store for a few bucks), or the $3 adjustable-tension hex bolts below shown below..

All The Scales Below INCLUDE One of These Pin/Washer Sets (Shown Above)You drill a hole in the scale, line up the little washer with something that'll hold it in place, and gently hammer it on. I like the hex bolts better, but if I do use these, I use a very soft and flat little chunk of wood (that's not got dozens of little holes in it) to hammer the nail/scale/razor/washer sandwich...once you get the washer on that pin good and tight, crimp off the rear and use a little ball peen hammer to get a smooth and natural-looking 'non show' side. The larger scales get the longer 19mm pin on the right, and the regular-sized scales get the 15mm pin on the left. Made in Germany. |
As we've now made it a point to get this little thing just for all the restorers out there, for now we can offer these on their own for sale, too...you'll receive TWO PINS + TWO WASHERS PER ORDER. Buy the 15mm size for the majority of razors, but if you've got a particularly thick and hearty 6/8" razor, go for the 19mm model. Any >6/8" razors should use the 19mm pins. MINIMUM QUANTITY OF 3 SETS IF PURCHASING THESE PINS ALONE. If you're buying them with anything else, feel free to buy just one set. |
