"Passionate Excellence in Craftsmanship"
Jerry Stark's an independent artisan grinder, making straight razors and scales all by hand (=one at a time) in the high desert country of Navajo County, Arizona, USA. I've personally never seen better workmanship with the uniformity of grinds or the alignment of scales.
This model is a 6/8" razor with beautiful distressed buffalo horn; the tang style and the point style will vary by what we have in stock. Note the pronounced secondary grinding profile for the final 6mm of the plane of metal closest to the edge line; as with the German razors, this is created with a difficult grinding that runs along the edge of the razor, maximizing flexibility of the metal just beyond the bevel plane. This razor feels and sounds notably different than the rest!
The steel recipe used here is "52100", a tool steel often used for ball bearings in aviation applications-it is sufficiently hard for straight razor use and known to be quite smooth. Cutting length will vary by the point style, from about the same as a modern German blade to about 8% longer.
ABOVE: #429; round point, file jimps on underside, ~73mm cutting edge, weighs ~53g
